BIOGRAPHY

Colour and I am one. I am a painter.
- Paul Klee

Sue Bayley is a West Vancouver artist who creates colourful, energetic, expressive paintings using acrylic and water-based media. As one of her collectors described;

Your paintings evoke Nature freely, like a breeze rustling through the Autumn leaves…

Sue has lived for many years throughout the Sea to Sky corridor but originally came from the UK. Creativity is the overriding passion of her life and, although she has always painted, there’s been a different creative focus at different stages; ballet, rock music promotion an film production. A gypsy at heart she has travelled the world following these creative muses, but always found time for painting. She studied at the Chelsea School of Art and then completed an Honours degree in Art and Psychology at London University. In Canada she attended many art workshops organized by the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver. In 2023, she was awarded Distinguished Artist Award at the Harmony Arts Festival for her contributions to arts in West Vancouver.

Over thirty years of film production has allowed her to travel all over the world, managing movies, television series and commercials. Painting continued to be an important part of her life, particularly since her family has grown and moved away, and she has more time to paint. Wherever she lived, her paintings were sold in local galleries - the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and British Columbia. Presently, her art can be seen at Leslie Jane, West Vancouver and Stock Home Design, Vancouver. Her paintings have been collected by private collectors and corporate clients worldwide.

Recently, life has changed dramatically as she has the challenge of living with lymphoma cancer and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME - chronic inflammation of all body systems). Painting helps explore her emotions and creates a sense of joy and peace while living with chronic illness and pain. The BC Cancer Foundation has created cards from her paintings to thank their donors and BC Brain Wellness has featured her artwork in an interview and an online show. Funds from the sale of her art goes to support research into cures for lymphoma cancer and ME.

Sue’s health challenges have led her to make changes to her art practice as her limited energy and hand tremors make dancing around the art studio difficult. She now uses large brushes in her left hand, shortened periods on her feet and slightly smaller canvases. The flamboyant colours, wonderful energy and abstract nature of her paintings continue to bring her joy, and to the viewers of her art.
